J. R.  ELLIS

I have lived in Yorkshire for most of my life and have developed a deep love of its landscapes, language, history and people. I have been writing since the 1970s, but it is only since I retired from teaching a few years ago and joined a writers' group in Otley that I have had the time to focus on it properly.

In addition to the Yorkshire Murder Mystery crime novels I write ghost stories, poetry and biography. I have researched and written about the extraordinary story of how my wife discovered she had a half brother in Australia and about their Irish mother who came to England in the 1930s.

I am slowly working on an autobiographical account of growing up in a working class area of Huddersfield, of how I failed the 11+ but eventually went to Oxford University. I am hoping that this will eventually become an interesting and humorous account of English class and culture
